QLogic 4000 Series iSCSI Adapters

The QLogic 4000 series of 1Gigabit (Gb) Internet Small Computer System Interface (iSCSI) adapters provide support for both PCI-Express (PCI-E) and PCI-X, as well as offering both single port and dual port configurations. Primarily functioning to provide Storage Area Network (SAN) connectivity Ethernet and Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) and Internet Protocol (IP) network architecture, these particular iSCSI adapters are advantageous due to their comprehensive operating system (OS) support as well as their TCP/IP Offload Engine (TOE) capability. TOE capabilities means that QLogic 4000 series adapters handle TCIP/IP processing functions, instead of the functions being performed on the host server’s Central Processing Unit (CPU) – saving it crucial processing power and enhancing overall SAN performance. Additionally, iSCSI processing functions are also capable of being offloaded, allowing QLogic 4000 series switches to enhance the performance of iSCSI storage traffic as well.

As iSCSI Host Bus Adapters (HBAs), the QLogic 4000 series provides advanced functionality with support for jumbo frames, 802:3x flow control, 802:1p priority service, and 802:1Q Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) Ethernet networking – all within a low-profile form factor. Additional beneficial features of the QLogic 4000 series include future-ready support for IP version 6, which is a new requirement for government installations if your business happens to takes you that way, as well as auto-negotiation and universal iSCSI SAN boot capabilities. Also featuring priority of service for virtualized environments, there are 5 models of the QLogic 4000 series that are available to choose from, including QLE4050, QLE4050C, QLE4052C, QLE4060C and QLE4062C, all offering the aforementioned advantages but with their own unique twist. For instance, QLE 4050 adapters feature a single port configuration and multi-mode optics, while QLE 4052C adapters feature a dual port configuration and copper materials, and the differences only continue further with the various models.
